Vitamix Blender
I got this vitamix 5200 blender after reading a lot of different articles and reviews on higher end home kitchen blenders. I was really sold on some of the less obvious features, and I thought they were worth a mention here since I've had it for a while and it does seem to be living up to its promises.
A lot of blenders have glass blending jars, which is fine except even very hard glass does tend to break. Some blenders even have plastic jars, which I would say is generally worse... mainly because they can break even easier. The Vitamix 5200 blender has a special polyester jar that basically looks and feels like plastic but is "virtually" unbreakable. I say that because I am sure someone out there will find a way to break it, but I am just as certain from my own experience that this jar will last me a lot longer than any glass or plastic ones would.
Another feature that may not jump out is the motor. In a lot of these blender reviews I always see people talking about how many "watts" and all I can think about is: Are they crazy? Why would you get excited about a blender that advertises how much it is going to raise your electric bill? The cool thing about the Vitamix is they have a Swedish-designed motor that gives better performance (blending power) using LESS electricity than other blenders that just pump in more electricity to get more power. That may not be as important to some people, but I use my Vitamix every morning and if you are considering buying a blender at this price range I expect you plan to use yours a lot also. For me, that electricity efficiency makes a noticeable difference at the end of the month.
