Proctor Silex hand blender

This is one heck of a blender! When I saw the price I thought, "The price is right!" but my husband thought I was crazy. He expect this Proctor Silex hand blender to fall apart in about two seconds flat. Nope! I was right. We've had it for about six months now and I use it all the time. It works great for making mashed potatoes and split pea soup.

That said, it's not so great for making smoothies. This little thing doesn't have the power to chop ice very well, but that's what I have a regular blender for. This is for when I need something portable that I can put into a pot or a bowl, and it does what it’s supposed to.

If I had to be picky, there are a couple of things that could do with some improvement. Don't get me wrong, I am 100% satisfied especially for the price but unlike some other hand blenders this one doesn't come apart to go in the dishwasher. That is a bit annoying, but it is not too bad to clean by hand. The other thing is it doesn't work great in deep bowls. I would say maybe 3 or 4 inches deep is usually fine, but past that it doesn't work as well.

I am completely serious, this is not a super-blender that does everything perfectly but you will be really surprised at how good it is for the money. I don't really do anything where I need a more powerful blender anyway, so the Proctor Silex hand blender is fine but even if I once in a while did need something more powerful I couldn't see spending the extra money for something that is only a little bit better.

I use this for smoothies and it actually works pretty well. The trick is you can only crush one cup of ice at a time. Of course, my ice are those half-moon shapes from my freezer?s built-in ice maker. Big chunky cubes like the ones you get from regular ice trays might be a bit harder for the Proctor Silex hand blender to crush.
