Oster 6684 12-speed Blender

For the price, this is perhaps the finest blender you can get. Yes, I am sure there are a multitude of blenders better than the Oster 6684 12-speed blender -- and for a variety of reasons, but I have owned a lot of blenders around the $70 to $100 price range and this one beats all of them easily without coming anywhere near price-wise.

I use my Oster 6684 fairly frequently. The 12-speed feature does come in handy for a blender that gets regular and varied use. I know some people use their blenders exclusively for smoothies or frozen drinks -- and the Oster works well for that -- but it also is great when you need to puree soup as well as dozens of other uses.

On shortcomings: The Oster is generally good at crushing ice for frozen drinks but sometimes it can leave chunks of ice behind. This can usually be avoided by starting and stopping the blender (on the highest setting) a few times. It is slightly annoying, but better than getting a chunk of ice in your drink. You can usually hear when this needs to be done by the chunk of ice hitting the blade as it slows down.

The buttons can also be a bit of a pain to clean. Unfortunately this is a design problem, but the flip side is the buttons are very easy to press (unlike some blenders with flat buttons that are flush with the surface). The glass jar is very sturdy and easy to clean. Overall despite being less than perfect, this blender’s imperfections are far less serious than some blenders more than twice the price.

This blender was a really great buy. I just wish it wasn't quite so loud! I had a much more expensive blender that broke on me after only a year and a half, which was disappointing, but it was quieter than this one.
