Oster 6647 Blender

Pros: Cheap, Cheap Cheap! Cons: Loud and Unstable (like me!)
Summary: The 6647 Oster blender is a 10 speed model that goes for less than dinner-for-two at a really cheap restaurant. At this price range, I think a reasonable expectation is: "It doesn’t fall apart after ten uses," but the Oster exceeds that mark easily.
One thing I was surprised at was how well this thing crushes ice. Sometimes it doesn’t get it all on the first try, but it gets it in the end. Personally, I think this is the finest use of a blender. Many other things blenders are typically used for can be done by hand, just much more slowly. It is virtually impossible, however, to crush ice into a consistently fine powder the way machines like this can. When the freezer was invented and ice became commonplace in households (not that long ago!) that changed the world. To a lesser extent, the world changed again when someone used a blender to make a frozen daquiri or fruit smoothie.
Using this blender you will be surprised that it performs 90% as well as blenders 10x the price. In fact, the only moderately disappointing thing I have to report is that this blender tends to be loud and literally unstable. I mean, you have to operate it with one hand on top, pressing down. This is because without you manually stabilizing it, the 6647 Oster blender will sometimes pop off the base, or else the lid may come off mid-blend. Either event is likely to generate an enormous mess, but prevention is simple and easy. Just be aware.
