Kitchenaid KHB100OB Hand Blender

I have had kitchenaid products in the past that have lasted a long time, so I was happy to give the kitchenaid khb100ob hand blender a try. I was not disappointed! It is a bit large but surprisingly lightweight and very easy to handle. I had never used a hand blender before so I was a bit worried but kitchenaid made it a breeze.
There are nine speeds, which means you can do everything from crush ice for frozen beverages (Yum!!) to mix dough or even meatloaf.
My favorite new use is for split pea soup. When you’re making a big pot of soup it’s not really practical (or at least not easy) to use a regular “jug” blender because not only are you probably making more soup than fits in the jug (I know I make a lot and then freeze it for dinners the whole month) but it’s just a pain in the backside to take a big pot off the stove and pour it into a pitcher.
Getting it into the pitcher any other way is either too time consuming or difficult, but bringing the blender to the pot... now that’s an idea that works. Being able to blend inside a bowl or pot opens up some new doors that you just can’t access with a counter-top blender. It is a huge selling point for handhelds in general, but from what I can tell the Kitchenaid more than holds its own against the competition. For the money, right in the middle of the price range for most handhelds, I don’t think you could find a better option.
